WHERE DOES THE PLACEMENT FEE GO?
Our volunteer program has a minimum fee of approximately £1100 for a two-week placement (the exact cost depends on the length of your stay). This fee is the same for all volunteers, regardless of their role. It covers essential program operating expenses, including: program development; pre-departure coordination and support; accommodation and soft drinks and vegetarian/pescatarian meal; airport transfers; ground transportation; support from Dogs Mountain staff (before and during your trip); a volunteer T-shirt; group activities; drivers; project administration; licenses and permits; and materials; veterinary supplies; rabies vaccine. For details of what’s included in each project, please see the trips page.
WILL SOMEONE MEET ME AT THE AIRPORT?
Yes, a Dogs Mountain team leader will meet you at the airport and transport you to the Dogs Mountain Sanctuary, where your project program will take place.
WHY A VOLUNTEER FEE?
When you join our volunteer project, your contribution supports the entire program—not just your time abroad. Your fee covers essential expenses like food, accommodation, group activity and transportation. It also funds vital veterinary supplies, enabling us to vaccinate and medicate animals. This support is crucial for sustaining our programs. As an unsponsored program (receiving no government, foundation, or NGO funding), we rely on volunteer contributions. These fees support our projects, making important charitable initiatives possible. They allow us to provide ongoing protection and veterinary care for animals in need. We deeply appreciate your support; together, we make this possible.
WILL I RECEIVE DETAILED INFORMATION ABOUT THE PLACEMENT?
Yes, upon acceptance into the program, you’ll receive a Volunteer Handbook (PDF) containing comprehensive details about the program and pre-departure preparations. This upfront information helps you determine if the project is right for you.
I AM VETERINARIAN DO I NEED A CURRENT LICENSE IN ORDER TO VOLUNTEER?
Yes, in most cases, a current veterinary license is required. Philippine law mandates that only licensed veterinarians can administer vaccines to dogs and cats. This ensures animal health and safety and guarantees correct vaccine administration. Veterinarians and veterinary nurses are vital to our organization’s outreach clinics. To participate, you must be fully qualified and registered in your country. Please submit copies of your veterinary license(s). If your license is not current, please contact us to discuss your eligibility
DOES MY PLACEMENT FEE COVER FLIGHTS, VISA AND INSURANCE?
No, the placement fee typically does not cover flights, visas, or insurance. These are the responsibility of the volunteer to arrange separately.
CAN I STAY SOMEWHERE OTHER THAN THE PLANNED ACCOMMODATIONS FOR THE GROUP?
You may arrange your own accommodations outside of the group housing, however, we strongly recommend staying in the provided accommodations. The program fee remains the same regardless of your choice of lodging. Staying with the group ensures your safety and simplifies logistics, including transportation to and from the project site.
WHEN DO I HAVE TO PAY A DEPOSIT AND WHEN IS THE FINAL PAYMENT DUE?
We require a deposit of £200 per project per person to secure your place. This deposit is non-refundable and non transferable, and it will be deducted from the total program fee (it is not an additional payment). The remaining balance is due ten days before your project start date.
I’M A LICENSED VETERINARY PROFESSIONAL, BUT I DON’T HAVE A LOT OF CLINICAL EXPERIENCE. HOW CAN I CONTRIBUTE TO THIS PROGRAM?
