The dogs’ plight in the Philippines is the same as in many other countries— abandonment, abuse, overpopulation, starvation and cruelty from man—some incidental and some deliberate… And then there’s the DOG MEAT TRADE.

Dogs Suffering All Over The Philippines Strays – Many dogs suffer abuse and cruelty in every day life, strays on the streets fear being kicked or having stones thrown at them, hungry, often with litters of pups, having been raped and attacked by other dogs. They scavenge for food in piles of rubbish, get sick and die in pain. Chained/Caged Dogs – It is common in Philippines for some dogs with homes to spend all of their short lives in cages or tied up 24/7 as “live door bells” and “guard dogs”(or ‘Bantay’ in Filipino). ‘Walking the dog’ hasn’t really caught on here, but one can hope.
However, we must not forget that there are still many Filipinos who treat their dogs and pets with all the love and respect they deserve, regard them as part of the family, and like many others, deplore any form of animal cruelty.
Dogs lucky enough to have been rescued from such traumatic times, can only be rehomed with the most caring and sensitive of people. Strays (Askals or Aspins in Filipino) have little or no monetary value, but they are the most wonderful dogs with great character, intelligence and loyalty. It is our ultimate wish that every dog can have a loving home of their own with a family or individuals who really care.
